Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has announced that the Chief Minister has mandated officials to ensure all roads in Bengaluru are free of potholes by October 31. To aid in this critical task, an additional grant of ₹750 crore has been allocated.
Shivakumar stated, “The Chief Minister has given officials a deadline to fix all roads in Bengaluru by October 31. He has also promised an additional ₹750 crore grant for closing potholes.” This announcement follows a high-level meeting focused on improving Bengaluru’s road network and traffic system.
During the meeting, officials reported identifying 10,000 potholes across the city. Shivakumar warned of strict action against officials if these are not repaired promptly. He also instructed police officials to help compile a list of potholes, emphasizing that public reports would lead to swift resolutions.
Acknowledging the recent increase in potholes due to heavy rainfall, Shivakumar noted that while the problem exists nationwide, Bengaluru’s situation garners significant media attention due to the freedom of the press in the state. He added that a comprehensive plan for road development will be formulated after the current monsoon season concludes.
In related news, Shivakumar also reaffirmed his commitment to his home district of Ramanagara, stating his deep connection to the region and his focus on empowering its people.
