Subramanyapura police successfully intervened in a harrowing case, arresting a 23-year-old mechanic and his associates for the abduction of a 19-year-old Chartered Accountancy (CA) student. The prompt police action led to the safe rescue of the young woman.
Following a complaint from the victim’s distressed parents, authorities launched an immediate investigation. Within just 12 hours of the incident, Ranganath, the primary suspect who also faces previous murder charges, along with his accomplices Rajesh B. (26), Chandan (23), Shreyas (30), and Manjunath (20), were taken into custody.
The incident unfolded on a Wednesday around 5:15 p.m. at the victim’s home in Simhadri Layout, Chikkallasandra. The accused, reportedly armed with weapons, forcibly entered the house where the student was having tea with her mother. They quickly overpowered the mother, bundled the girl into an auto-rickshaw, and sped away.
When the victim’s mother, a house helper, and her grandmother attempted to intervene, the suspects allegedly brandished machetes to intimidate them, causing minor injuries in the process.
Subramanyapura police leveraged CCTV footage to swiftly track down and identify the culprits. Investigations revealed that Ranganath had a history of criminal activity, having previously served time for a murder. After his release, he had allegedly been harassing the girl, who lived near his residence, insisting she marry him. Just a month prior, he had reportedly caused disturbances outside her home on two separate occasions with the same demand.
The police have filed charges against Ranganath and his associates under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including stalking (Section 78), kidnapping or abducting a woman to compel marriage (Section 87), voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons (Section 118(1)), unlawful assembly (Section 189(2)), criminal trespass and house trespass (Section 329(4)), and criminal intimidation (Section 351(2)).
All arrested individuals have since been presented before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
