Bengaluru is grappling with a serious case of alleged police misconduct. The City Police Commissioner, Seemant Kumar Singh, has taken swift action, suspending D.J. Halli Police Station Inspector Sunil H.B. and Assistant Sub-Inspector Prakash. They face severe charges of sexually harassing and blackmailing a woman for sexual favors.
An official First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged against both officers at Peenya Police Station, stemming from the victim’s courageous complaint.
According to the complaint, the ordeal began in December 2024 when the woman visited the D.J. Halli Police Station to report a cheating incident involving a relative. It was during this time that Inspector Sunil H.B. allegedly obtained her personal contact number. He then began initiating conversations, eventually proposing a relationship and making enticing offers, including assistance to establish a beauty parlor and secure housing. The victim claims the inspector coerced her into a physical relationship under the false pretense of marriage, consistently demanding sexual favors and insisting she participate in video calls.
Further complicating the distressing situation, Assistant Sub-Inspector Prakash reportedly became aware of the ongoing harassment. Instead of intervening appropriately, he allegedly began to blackmail the victim, also demanding sexual favors. When the woman attempted to confide in Inspector Sunil about Prakash’s actions, she was met with evasion and dire threats.
Overwhelmed by the escalating harassment, the victim sought justice by reaching out to Director-General and Inspector-General of Police M.A. Saleem. Acting on the directives of these senior officials, Peenya Police have filed an FIR against the two officers. They are charged under sections 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 69 (sexual intercourse by deceitful means), and 75(1) (sexual harassment) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
Authorities have confirmed that both accused officers are currently at large, and a specialized team has been mobilized to locate and apprehend them, ensuring they face the full force of the law.
