Bengaluru police are actively pursuing an unknown individual responsible for sending hoax bomb threats to two prominent institutions in the city: the High Court of Karnataka and the Consulate General of Israel. While these alarming emails ultimately proved to be false alarms, two First Information Reports (FIRs) have been officially registered to thoroughly investigate the incidents.
The threatening emails, dispatched on September 19, ominously declared that “6 RDX IEDs planted….blasts will occur after Friday Islamic Prayers.” The sender used the email address “cho_ramaswamy@hotmail.com” and claimed to be the late editor of Tughlak magazine, Cho. Ramaswamy. Comprehensive anti-sabotage checks were immediately conducted at both locations, confirming the threats were baseless.
Following formal complaints lodged by the Registrar General of the High Court of Karnataka and Yuval B. from the Consulate General of Israel in South India, Bengaluru city police initiated legal proceedings. The cases have been filed under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act, 2000, underscoring the seriousness with which authorities are treating this cybercrime.
This incident is not an isolated one for the Karnataka High Court, which has unfortunately experienced several similar hoax bomb threats earlier in the year. Authorities remain vigilant in ensuring the safety and security of public and diplomatic establishments.
