A disturbing case has surfaced in Bengaluru where a doctor’s death, initially believed to be natural, has now been reclassified as a murder. The victim, Dr. Krutika M. Reddy, a dermatologist, was found deceased six months ago. Her husband, Dr. Mahendra Reddy, also a medical professional, has been arrested in connection with her death.
Dr. Mahendra Reddy, a 32-year-old general surgeon, is accused of killing his wife by administering a fatal dose of anesthesia, making it appear as if she died of natural causes. Forensic reports confirmed that Dr. Krutika Reddy succumbed to respiratory failure caused by anesthetic substances.
The couple, who married on May 26, 2024, reportedly experienced a rapid decline in their marital relationship, according to investigators.

- Meticulous Planning: Investigators believe Dr. Mahendra Reddy meticulously planned his wife’s murder, exploiting his medical knowledge and her existing health conditions. He allegedly became upset upon discovering that his wife had long-standing gastric and metabolic issues, information he claims her family withheld before the marriage. Authorities stated that the evidence points to a deliberate and precise administration of anesthetic drugs, leveraging her medical vulnerabilities.
- Anesthesia Administered via IV: Dr. Krutika was staying at her father’s home when she reportedly fell unconscious. During this time, Dr. Mahendra Reddy allegedly visited her, under the guise of providing medical care, and administered intravenous injections containing anesthetic agents over two days. On April 23, 2025, she lost consciousness again and was declared ‘brought dead’ at a private hospital.
- Failure to Perform CPR: After the initial dose of anesthesia made Dr. Krutika feel uneasy, her husband reportedly took her home, suggesting she needed rest. He later administered another IV dose, which worsened her condition. Despite her complaining of pain at the IV site, Dr. Mahendra allegedly advised her not to remove it. Later that night, he administered the injection. The next day, when she was found unresponsive, Dr. Mahendra, despite being a doctor, did not perform CPR, and she was subsequently declared dead.
- Sister’s Suspicion Led to Investigation: Initially, Dr. Krutika’s family accepted the explanation of a natural death. However, her sister, Dr. Nikitha Reddy, insisted on a thorough investigation into the cause of death. Six months later, forensic analysis revealed traces of anesthesia in Dr. Krutika’s body. This led the police to reclassify the case as murder and arrest Dr. Mahendra Reddy.
