Bengaluru experienced a fierce overnight storm on Friday, characterized by heavy rain, thunder, and gusty winds. This intense weather event resulted in significant disruption, with at least seven trees being uprooted and 19 branches snapping across the city.
Several areas bore the brunt of the storm, including HSR Layout, Ulsoor, and Rainbow Layout, which were among the worst affected. Furthermore, localities such as Electronics City, Indiranagar, S.G. Palya, Suranjandas Road, and various stretches along the Outer Ring Road reported widespread heavy flooding.
According to data released by the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), the majority of incidents involving fallen trees and branches were concentrated in Bengaluru’s West and South zones, encompassing areas like Rajajinagar, Vijayanagar, and Padmanabhanagar. Authorities acted swiftly, clearing all reported tree-fall incidents and 18 of the 19 branch-related complaints by Saturday morning.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported a substantial 68.3 mm of rainfall across the city by 8:30 a.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, nearby HAL Airport recorded 22.3 mm of precipitation, and Kempegowda International Airport registered 20.8 mm.
The forecast from the IMD indicates that wet conditions are likely to persist until October 15. Bengaluru residents can anticipate cloudy skies with light to moderate rain or thundershowers throughout the week. Temperatures are expected to range from maximums of 29-30 degrees Celsius to minimums of 20-21 degrees Celsius.
