Karnataka Minister Satish Jarkiholi announced on Saturday that the state government is poised to make a crucial decision regarding the division of Belagavi district into smaller administrative entities.
Responding to media inquiries, the Minister emphasized that this prospective division is driven by the need for enhanced administrative convenience. Belagavi, being one of Karnataka’s largest districts, has seen numerous organizations advocate for its bifurcation. Proponents believe that creating smaller districts would streamline administration, making government schemes and programs more accessible and effective for the populace.
Jarkiholi noted that several state-level committees have already recommended the district’s division, and the government is expected to act on these recommendations soon.
Cabinet Reshuffle Discussions
Addressing questions about a potential cabinet reshuffle, Mr. Jarkiholi stated that while discussions have been ongoing, the final decision rests with the party’s high command.
He acknowledged that many capable leaders within the Congress party are eligible for ministerial positions, but only 34 can be accommodated. The party’s central leadership will ultimately determine who remains in the cabinet, who is dropped, and which new faces are brought in. Mr. Jarkiholi clarified that neither he nor any other individual leader is authorized to make pronouncements on the matter. He also reiterated that Yathindra Siddaramaiah’s recent statement pertained to AHINDA (minorities, backward classes, and Dalits) leadership, not the overall leadership of the government or the party itself.
