The Australian women’s cricket team faced a penalty on Friday, September 19, 2025, receiving a 10% fine on their match fee. This sanction came after they were found to have a slow over-rate during their second One Day International match against India, held in Mullanpur (Chandigarh).
This fine follows Australia’s significant 102-run loss in the second ODI on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, marking their most substantial defeat by runs.
The penalty was handed down by GS Lakshmi from the ICC International Panel of Match Referees. It was determined that Australia fell two overs short of their target, even after accounting for all time allowances.
“According to Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, teams are fined five percent of their match fee for each over they fail to complete within the designated time frame,” an official statement from the ICC clarified.
“Australian captain Alyssa Healy readily admitted to the infraction and accepted the proposed penalty, eliminating the need for a formal hearing,” the statement further noted.
The over-rate charge was initially raised by on-field umpires Vrinda Rathi and Janani Narayanan, along with third umpire Lauren Agenbag and fourth umpire Gayathri Venugopalan.
