The serene city of Indore, Madhya Pradesh, was shaken by a concerning incident involving two Australian women cricketers participating in the ongoing ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup. Police reported on Friday (October 25, 2025) that the athletes were allegedly stalked, and one was inappropriately touched by an individual on a motorcycle.
Authorities moved quickly, apprehending the accused, Akil Khan, on Thursday (October 24, 2025). The incident reportedly took place on Thursday morning in the Khajrana Road area.
According to Sub-Inspector Nidhi Raghuvanshi, the two cricketers had ventured out of their hotel, heading towards a local café, when a man on a motorcycle began to persistently follow them.
The situation escalated when the man allegedly molested one of the players before quickly fleeing the scene.
Immediately after the distressing encounter, the cricketers reached out to their team’s security officer, Danny Simmons. He promptly coordinated with local security liaison officers, ensuring a vehicle was dispatched to assist the players.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Himani Mishra personally met with the two Australian players. Their statements were recorded, and a formal First Information Report (FIR) was lodged at the MIG police station under sections 74 (use of criminal force to outrage a woman’s modesty) and 78 (stalking) of the newly introduced Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Crucially, a quick-thinking bystander managed to note down the suspect’s motorcycle registration number, which proved instrumental in leading the police to Akil Khan’s swift apprehension.
Ms. Mishra further confirmed that Akil Khan has a history of prior criminal cases, and a thorough investigation into this latest incident is currently underway.
