In a significant operation, the Assam Rifles successfully apprehended two individuals suspected of being part of a Myanmar-based armed organization. The arrests took place on October 18 in the Sajik Tampak area of Manipur’s Chandel district, a region strategically located near the India-Myanmar border.
The paramilitary force confirmed that the two arrested individuals are members of the United Tribal Volunteers Group.
This targeted operation, initiated based on specific intelligence, played a crucial role in disrupting an attempt at cross-border militant movement along the sensitive frontier. The detainees have since been handed over to the Chakpikarong Police for comprehensive further investigation.
The arrests highlight the persistent security challenges in Manipur, a state that has been grappling with severe ethnic violence between Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities since May 2023. The ongoing unrest has resulted in the tragic loss of over 260 lives and has left thousands of people displaced from their homes.
