Assam Police Deputy Superintendent Sandipan Garg, who is also a cousin of the late popular singer Zubeen Garg, was arrested on Wednesday, October 8, 2025. This arrest is in connection with the singer’s tragic death last month in Singapore and marks the fifth apprehension in this ongoing investigation.
Previously, authorities had taken into custody Shyamkanu Mahanta, the chief organizer of the North East India Festival, along with Siddharth Sharma, Zubeen Garg’s manager, and two of his band members, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amrit Prabha Mahanta.
CID Special DGP Munna Prasad Gupta confirmed the arrest, stating, “We have arrested Sandipan Garg. We are now completing the necessary legal formalities.” The police officer had undergone multiple interrogations over the past few days concerning the singer’s demise.
Sandipan Garg, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, was reportedly present with Zubeen Garg in Singapore during the incident where the singer allegedly drowned. “Our team has presented him before a court, and we will be seeking police remand,” another senior officer added. The four other individuals previously arrested in this case remain in police custody.
Zubeen Garg passed away on September 19 in Singapore following a swimming incident in the sea. He had traveled to the Southeast Asian country to attend the fourth edition of the North East India Festival, an event organized by Shyamkanu Mahanta and his company.
