Two senior Assam Police officers have landed in Singapore as part of a dedicated investigation into the untimely and mysterious death of the popular singer Zubeen Garg. Garg had been in Singapore to perform at a show last month, where he tragically passed away.
The officers, CID Special DGP Munna Prasad Gupta and Titabor Co-District SP Tarun Goel, traveled directly from Guwahati. They are key members of a nine-person Special Investigation Team (SIT) established by the Assam Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
This significant development comes at a critical juncture in the investigation, with considerable public pressure mounting following over 60 First Information Reports (FIRs) filed across Assam concerning Garg’s death. While authorities are keeping details of the probe under wraps, it’s understood that the SIT will visit the site where Garg is believed to have died.
“Establishing a connection between the events and the place where they occurred is paramount to the entire investigation,” a source shared, adding that the Assam Police team will also collaborate with their Singaporean counterparts to discuss the case.
The Passing of Zubeen Garg
Reports indicate that Zubeen Garg drowned while swimming in the sea on September 19. This occurred during his visit to Singapore for the 4th edition of the North East India Festival.
His wife, Garima, expressed that the family and the state’s residents are eager to understand the circumstances of his final moments, conveying confidence in the legal process to uncover the truth. A 10-member SIT is currently investigating the singer’s death, and seven individuals have been apprehended in connection with the case. Those arrested include NEIF organizer Mahanta, Garg’s manager Sharma, his cousin and police officer Sandipan, band members Sekharjyoti Goswami and Amritprava Mahanta, and his personal security officers Nandeswar Bora and Prabin Baishya.
