The Arunachal Pradesh unit of the Congress party has voiced strong disapproval regarding an alleged death threat directed at Rahul Gandhi. This threat reportedly came from a former leader of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) during a recent televised discussion. The Congress unit is now demanding an apology from the top leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
During the television debate, the former ABVP State president, who was representing the BJP, allegedly stated that Mr. Gandhi “will be shot in the chest.”
Bosiram Siram, president of the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), issued a statement condemning the remark. He called it “not just an irresponsible remark, but a criminal act of intimidation,” asserting that it reflects “the BJP-RSS culture of hate and its disregard for democratic values.”
The Congress party is calling for the immediate arrest of the individual who made the threat and a public apology from senior BJP figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
“Threatening the Leader of Opposition, who represents the voice of the people, is nothing less than an assault on democracy itself,” Mr. Siram emphasized.
Furthermore, the Congress party has urged the implementation of parliamentary and legal safeguards to protect the dignity and security of the Leader of Opposition.
The statement concluded by asserting that such overt threats to Rahul Gandhi cannot be overlooked or dismissed, and that “no threat or intimidation will silence his fight for truth, justice and democracy.”
