While the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Amaravati had initially predicted substantial rainfall for central Andhra Pradesh on Friday, the most intense downpours, measuring up to 130 mm, were primarily observed in Rayalaseema’s Kurnool and Nandyal districts.
According to the IMD’s 11 a.m. bulletin released on Saturday, September 27, specific locations in Rayalaseema recorded the following rainfall between Friday morning and Saturday morning: Aspari in Kurnool district received 13 cm, Yemmiganur (Kurnool) recorded 10 cm, Dhone (Nandyal) had 9 cm, Alur and Gudur (Kurnool) each reported 8 cm, and Banaganapalle (Nandyal) measured 7 cm.
Along the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh, rainfall during the same period was generally lighter. Kunavaram in Alluri Sitarama Raju district experienced the highest at 8 cm, followed by Kukunoor in Eluru district with 6 cm, and Mundlamuru in Prakasam district with 5 cm. Other coastal regions received moderate showers.
Meanwhile, a depression that had formed over the Bay of Bengal on Friday successfully crossed the south Odisha coast at 4:30 a.m. on Saturday. As of 10 a.m., the system remained over the same region, located approximately 10 km west-northwest of Gopalpur (Odisha), 120 km west-southwest of Puri (Odisha), 40 km south-southeast of Phulbani (Odisha), and 180 km east-southeast of Bhawanipatna (Odisha), according to the IMD.
Although no specific severe weather alerts were issued for Andhra Pradesh for Saturday, light to moderate rainfall is anticipated in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, with isolated instances of heavy rain possible across the state. The IMD predicts a relatively drier period for the state until October 2, though residents should still be vigilant for thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds over the next four days.
