Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has unequivocally stated his government’s resolve to maintain stringent law and order, ensuring that anti-social elements face the full force of the law. While acknowledging his own experiences with the previous YSRCP government’s heavy-handedness, he stressed a commitment against politically motivated revenge. Naidu emphasized that his administration would take firm action against those who assault women or orchestrate deceptive and offensive social media campaigns.
During a discussion on law and order in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday, Mr. Naidu noted the significant decline in policing standards under the former YSRCP regime. He outlined ongoing efforts to reform the police force and other government departments. The Chief Minister reflected that his fourth term in office was a testament to the public’s trust in his leadership, his ability to foster consensus, and his forward-thinking approach to governance. He urged leaders, though understandably upset with the prior government, to avoid taking justice into their own hands.
Naidu also brought attention to his past achievements in combating factional violence in the Rayalaseema region and effectively addressing the Naxalite insurgency.
The Chief Minister recalled instances where TDP offices were vandalized, leading to formal complaints being lodged with the Union Home Minister and the then Governor. He cautioned the public to be vigilant against individuals masquerading as politicians with criminal intent.
Expressing deep concern over the proliferation of fake campaigns on social media, Mr. Naidu issued a stern warning: severe action would be taken against anyone posting objectionable content, particularly targeting women. He labeled such activities as the coordinated work of ‘paid groups.’
Referring to the Y.S. Vivekananda Reddy murder case, the Chief Minister asserted that Circle Inspector Sankaraiah had compromised the crime scene by collaborating with criminals, and now, shockingly, had the audacity to serve a legal notice to Mr. Chandrababu Naidu for alleged defamation.
Significant Decrease in Crime Rates
Mr. Naidu proudly reported a 4.84% reduction in crimes against women over the past year. Specifically, dowry-related deaths plummeted by 43%, murders of women decreased by 15%, and female suicides saw a remarkable 59% drop. A total of 343 individuals implicated in crimes against women have been incarcerated. He elaborated on various measures implemented to safeguard women, including reducing police response times to an impressive 8-10 minutes.
Concluding his statement, the Chief Minister highlighted the government’s success in curbing ganja and drug smuggling through the dedicated ‘Eagle Task Force.’ He also urged citizens to remain vigilant against the rising threat of cyber fraud, observing that even educated individuals are increasingly falling prey to online scams.
