Andhra Pradesh has proudly secured its position as an ‘Achiever’ in the highly anticipated State Energy Efficiency Index (SEEI) for 2024. This significant recognition, announced in a press release on Sunday, September 21, 2025, by A. Chandra Sekhar Reddy, Media Advisor for the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) in South India, highlights the state’s impressive energy savings ranging from 5 to 15 Million Tonnes of Oil Equivalent (Mtoe).
Dhiraj Kumar Srivastava, Director General of BEE, emphasized the crucial role of SEEI-2024. He stated that the index acts as a vital framework for directing state-specific energy action plans, fostering healthy competition among regions, and ultimately accelerating India’s broader objectives in energy efficiency and climate change mitigation.
During the release of a special report detailing the transformative impact of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) on enhancing energy efficiency initiatives, Mr. Srivastava underscored the remarkable successes stemming from the Ministry of Power’s strategic policies. These policies, implemented collaboratively with Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), various State Designated Agencies, DISCOMs (power distribution companies), and key industry partners, are clearly yielding positive outcomes.
To date, these collective efforts have resulted in substantial savings: 53 Mtoe of energy and an impressive 321.06 billion units of electricity. Furthermore, these initiatives have successfully reduced carbon dioxide emissions by a staggering 321.06 million tonnes. In the SEEI-2024 rankings, Maharashtra emerged as the leading ‘Front Runner’, with Andhra Pradesh following closely as an ‘Achiever’. Assam was classified as a ‘Contender’, and Tripura as an ‘Aspirant’, showcasing a diverse range of progress across Indian states.
