In a significant development for humanitarian service in India, Y.D. Ramarao, the current chairman of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Andhra Pradesh branch, has been elected to the society’s national managing body. The election took place on Monday in New Delhi, marking a new chapter for Red Cross initiatives in the region.
The IRCS national body operates under the esteemed leadership of J.P. Nadda, who serves as the Minister for Health and Family Welfare. Ramarao’s appointment places him among a select group of 12 members chosen from 28 state branches nationwide. His efforts were instrumental in considerably strengthening the Red Cross movement within that region. In recognition of his exceptional contributions, he was honored with the prestigious President’s Gold Medal for the year 2018-19.
This elevation to the national managing body is anticipated to profoundly enhance the reach and effectiveness of Red Cross programs and service projects throughout South India, with a particular focus on his home state of Andhra Pradesh.
