Police forces in Anantapur, Kurnool, and Nandyal districts recently hosted a series of captivating ‘open house’ events, designed to engage schoolchildren and raise awareness about law enforcement. These initiatives were a key part of the ongoing Police Commemoration Day celebrations, offering students a unique glimpse into the tools and technologies vital to modern policing.
At the Anantapur district police headquarters, Superintendent of Police P. Jagadeesh personally inaugurated the open house. He emphasized the importance of educating young people about the department’s equipment and operations, encouraging them to view the police as approachable community partners. “Consider police as your family and approach them for any assistance or to address problems,” the SP urged the students. “We are here to serve you.” The impressive display included various firearms such as .22 rifles, .303 rifles, and AK-47s, alongside a 12-bore pump-action gun. Modern policing tools like drone cameras, body-worn cameras, and Vajra vehicles were also showcased, providing a comprehensive overview of law enforcement capabilities. SP Jagadeesh also mentioned the department’s commitment to welfare programs for martyred police personnel, with various service activities planned throughout the commemoration week, which runs until October 31.
Similarly, Kurnool witnessed an enthusiastic turnout at its open house, visited by SP Vikrant Patil at the Parade Grounds. He reiterated the goal of fostering a sense of social service among students by familiarizing them with police work and the daily challenges faced by officers.
The Nandyal police open house had a special star: Honey, the district’s expert sniffer dog. After a smart ceremonial salute to SP Suneel Sheoran, Honey thrilled the children with a demonstration of her incredible skills in detecting explosive materials. Students learned about the crucial role sniffer dogs play in investigations, from solving murders to uncovering thefts.
Beyond these educational displays, the commemoration week also featured acts of community service. Allagadda Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) K. Pramod led a successful mega blood donation camp, where he and 27 other police personnel contributed to a vital cause.
