In a significant boost to medical education in Andhra Pradesh, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has officially approved 106 new postgraduate medical seats. These additional seats will be allocated across 11 government medical colleges in the state, bringing the total number of PG seats in broad speciality courses to 1,869.
Health, Medical Education, and Family Welfare Minister Satya Kumar Yadav confirmed this positive development in a recent departmental statement. He highlighted that 60 of these new seats are specifically designated for five newly established government medical colleges, demonstrating a commitment to expanding healthcare infrastructure.
This approval comes after Minister Satya Kumar Yadav engaged in discussions with Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, followed by the State government’s submission of a comprehensive proposal to the NMC in 2024.
The newly sanctioned seats will be distributed among both new and existing institutions. The five new government medical colleges in Machilipatnam, Nandyal, Rajamahendravaram, Vizianagaram, and Eluru will receive 12, 16, 16, 14, and 4 seats, respectively.
Among the existing institutions, Anantapur Medical College gains the highest number of new seats with 15, while SVIMS, Tirupati receives 13. Srikakulam Medical College will have 8 new seats, and Kadapa Medical College adds 7. Andhra Medical College, along with Kurnool and Guntur medical colleges, will each benefit from four additional postgraduate seats.
