In a powerful show of discontent, mango farmers from what was once Chittoor district are preparing to hold an ‘Akrandana Sabha’ – a ‘cry of agony’ – on October 15, 2025. This significant protest will take place at the Bangarupalem agriculture market yard, aiming to pressure authorities into settling overdue payments for their produce, which have been pending for over four months.
On October 10, 2025, leaders of the United Chittoor District Mango Farmers’ Association, T. Janardhan and C. Munishwar Reddy, officially launched their call to action in Bangarupalem, urging all farmers to join the protest. They highlighted the plight of approximately 50,000 Totapuri mango cultivators who have been struggling without payment for the mangoes supplied months ago.
According to the association leaders, a special tripartite committee involving District Collectors, local legislators, and factory representatives from Chittoor and Tirupati had previously set a procurement price of ₹12 per kilogram. This price was meant to include a ₹4 per kg subsidy from the State government. However, despite assurances from Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and Agriculture Minister K. Atchannaidu regarding the swift release of these subsidy funds, the farmers claim the money remains unreleased.
The union fiercely criticized pulp industries and ramp operators for allegedly disregarding government directives. They issued a stern warning: if the outstanding ₹500 crore owed to farmers is not paid promptly, the association will unveil plans for a more intense and widespread protest campaign during their October 15 meeting.
