The Special Investigation Team (SIT) wasted no time in delving into the alleged Andhra Pradesh liquor scam, commencing its interrogation of Rajampet Member of Parliament, P.V. Midhun Reddy, on Friday, September 19th.
Investigators, who have identified Mr. Midhun Reddy as a central figure in the multi-crore financial irregularities, initially apprehended him on July 19, 2025. He had since been held in judicial custody at Rajamahendravaram Central Prison.
The Crime Investigation Department (CID) had previously designated the MP as Accused No. 4 in the sprawling ₹3,500 crore scam. A court order had granted the SIT a two-day window for his custody, specifically for intense questioning on September 19th and 20th.
Following standard procedure, SIT officers retrieved Mr. Midhun Reddy from the central jail. After a mandatory medical examination at a government hospital, he was transported to the SIT’s primary office in Vijayawada to begin the interrogation.
During the exhaustive session, a dedicated team of SIT officials reportedly posed a barrage of questions to Mr. Midhun Reddy. These queries focused on several critical areas, including the liquor policy implemented by the previous YSRC government, the alleged introduction of new, questionable liquor brands, the establishment of shell companies, suspicious manual liquor sales, his connections with other individuals implicated in the case, the mechanics of illegal money collection and transfers, and allegations of him receiving illicit kickbacks.
Adding another layer to the complex probe, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also initiated its own investigation into the alleged liquor scam. Before Midhun Reddy’s current custody, the ED conducted extensive searches across numerous locations in Telangana, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh.
Furthermore, SIT investigators have previously raided various firms believed to be operated by other accused individuals, spanning Andhra Pradesh and its neighboring states. To date, the SIT has named 48 individuals in connection with the liquor scam, with 12 arrests already made. Police sources indicate that Mr. Midhun Reddy is slated for a second day of questioning on Saturday.
