The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly officially concluded its session on Saturday, with Speaker Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu announcing its indefinite adjournment. The session, which spanned eight productive working days, was marked by rigorous parliamentary proceedings.
Speaker Patrudu highlighted that the House engaged in business for a total of 46 hours, during which 120 members actively participated in various discussions. A significant outcome of these deliberations was the approval of 23 important Bills. Additionally, the government opted to withdraw three Bills during this period.
During the session, a total of 55 ‘starred questions’ — queries requiring an oral answer from a minister — were addressed. Furthermore, 71 starred questions and 3 unstarred questions were formally placed before the House. Three short-duration questions were discussed, and a written answer was provided for one question.
The Assembly also held six short-duration discussions on a range of pertinent issues and successfully passed three government resolutions. A minister presented one official statement, and a crucial committee report was submitted for the House’s consideration. Notably, the Amenities Committee, led by the Speaker himself, presented a report on Saturday that urged the government to thoroughly review and restructure the pay and allowances for all members of the House.
The committee’s recommendations included a proposal to increase the pension for retired members. It suggested raising the minimum pension from the current ₹30,000 to ₹50,000 and the maximum to ₹70,000. Additionally, the report advocated for medical facilities for both retired and serving members to be on par with those provided to All India Service officers. The committee emphasized the need for the government to rationalize the existing pay and allowances structure to ensure fair compensation.
