The Andhra Pradesh government is making a significant leap towards a greener future by establishing a top-tier advisory committee. This committee’s primary role is to champion green hydrogen and its byproducts, all under the ambitious ‘Green Hydrogen Valley – Amaravati’ initiative.
This exciting development comes hot on the heels of the successful Green Hydrogen Summit held at SRM University in Amaravati in July 2025. It was there that the state proudly declared its vision to become India’s leading green hydrogen hub by 2030.
According to G.O. Ms. No. 82, a directive from the Energy Department issued on Wednesday, this newly formed committee will be crucial in guiding the adoption of cutting-edge technology, spearheading innovative research, and building the necessary infrastructure for green hydrogen production, efficient storage, and diverse applications.
Leading this vital endeavor is Dr. V.K. Saraswat, a distinguished Member of NITI Aayog, who will serve as the committee’s Chairman. Andhra Pradesh’s Chief Secretary, K. Vijayanand, will take on the role of Co-Chairman, with NREDCAP Managing Director Dr. M. Kamalakar Babu diligently serving as the Member-Convener.
The committee boasts a diverse and expert lineup, including senior government officials, renowned scientists, and influential industry leaders. Representatives from prestigious organizations such as CSIR-NCL (Pune), the Ministry of Railways, Germany’s Fraunhofer Institute, SRM University, Greenko, and ReNew Power will lend their expertise.
To ensure consistent progress and accountability, annual reviews and summits will be hosted at SRM University, providing a platform to track the advancements made in this pivotal sector.
Government officials emphasize that this forward-thinking initiative is designed to spark innovation in clean energy, generate valuable green employment opportunities, and solidify Andhra Pradesh’s crucial contribution to India’s nationwide shift towards a sustainable, hydrogen-powered economy.
