Andhra Pradesh’s Minister for Excise and Mines, Kollu Ravindra, has issued a firm declaration, stating that the State government is implementing rigorous measures to halt the production and distribution of illicit liquor.
Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat on Thursday, Minister Ravindra highlighted the Excise Department’s Enforcement Wing’s success in managing this ongoing issue. He proudly announced that, thanks to the “Navodayam” initiative, an impressive 21 districts across the state have already achieved liquor-free status.
“The government views the recent spurious liquor case in Mulakalacheruvu, located in Annamayya district, with utmost seriousness,” the Minister declared. He unequivocally stated that severe action would be pursued against all individuals implicated, regardless of their status or influence.
Ravindra detailed the enforcement team’s significant seizures, which included 30 cans of fake liquor, counterfeit labels, packaging cartons, and crucial sealing equipment. He confirmed that proceedings have begun against numerous individuals connected to the case, encompassing bar owners and even Excise Department personnel. Notably, one sub-inspector has been suspended due to negligence in duty.
Warning Against Misinformation
The Minister also took the opportunity to criticize the YSRCP, accusing them of “spreading false propaganda” regarding illicit liquor incidents to incite public fear. He issued a stern warning: “Anyone found publishing or circulating fake news, whether in print, electronic, or social media, will face stringent legal action under BNS Sections 353 and 356.” Additionally, he confirmed that all cases involving spurious liquor from 2019 to 2024 would undergo comprehensive investigation, with all responsible parties facing prosecution under the full extent of the law.
