The Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) Project Office in Amaravati has been officially recognized with the ‘Net Zero Energy (Design)’ Certification by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), an initiative supported by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
This landmark achievement signifies that the CRDA project office is the very first building in Amaravati, the ambitious greenfield capital city of Andhra Pradesh, to secure such a distinguished recognition. This moment marks a crucial step forward in the state’s ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability.
The building’s design is ingeniously crafted to fulfill 100% of its annual energy requirements through clean, renewable sources. This is achieved primarily through the installation of a powerful 540 kWp rooftop solar system. Furthermore, any additional energy demand will be offset by procuring certified green power, ensuring a true net zero energy status during its operational phase.
During the certificate presentation from IGBC representatives, CRDA Commissioner K. Kanna Babu expressed immense pride in the achievement. He highlighted that this award not only showcases the Authority’s deep dedication to environmental stewardship but also establishes a new, aspirational benchmark for all upcoming developments within Amaravati and across Andhra Pradesh.
This latest certification builds upon previous green successes; the Amaravati Master Plan itself had already earned the distinguished IGBC Platinum Certification back in 2018. This earlier recognition underscored the state’s proactive and visionary approach to sustainable urban planning and comprehensive development.
The official press release further acknowledged the instrumental roles played by several key individuals. Beyond Mr. Kanna Babu’s visionary leadership, Additional Commissioner A. Bhargav Teja was pivotal in planning and executing the integration of sustainability principles across all major projects. He was ably supported by Engineer-in-Chief R. Gopala Krishna Reddy, Chief Engineer (Housing & Office) P.V.K. Bhaskar, and Chief Architect and Design Coordinator Sandeep Dixit, whose collective efforts made this green initiative a resounding success.
