Tuesday brought a welcome spell of light to moderate rainfall across numerous coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh. Areas such as West Godavari, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, Kakinada, Prakasam, Anakapalli, and Eluru all experienced these showers.
Among these, Bhimavaram in West Godavari recorded the highest rainfall for the day, with 70 mm. Close behind were Malikipuram and P. Gannavaram in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district, which received 66.5 mm and 64 mm respectively, according to real-time data from the Directorate of Economics and Statistics.
Earlier in the day, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Amaravati had issued an orange alert for districts including Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, Alluri Sitharama Raju, Anakapalli, Kakinada, East Godavari, and Eluru. A more severe red alert was also put in place for Vizianagaram. However, by 7:30 p.m., Vizianagaram had not reported significant rainfall activity.
Looking ahead, isolated locations across both North and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh are bracing for heavy rainfall on Wednesday, September 17. Following this, the state can expect light to moderate showers to continue until September 23.
These evolving weather patterns are influenced by a north-south trough extending from South Interior Karnataka to the Comorin area, situated at 0.9 km above mean sea level. Additionally, lower tropospheric southwesterly winds are expected to persist over Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, further shaping the region’s weather conditions.
