Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu recently articulated his government’s dual focus: propelling the state into the forefront of information technology and other emerging sectors, while simultaneously ensuring the robust welfare of its farming community. He reaffirmed his commitment to enhancing agricultural prosperity, particularly by boosting the sale of organic produce through both traditional Rythu Bazaars and innovative Mobile Rythu Bazaars.
During a vital discussion in the Legislative Assembly, Naidu highlighted the extensive emphasis his administration places on water conservation. This includes crucial projects like the construction of reservoirs, check dams, and an intricate network of canals, all designed to empower farmers and maximize their agricultural output. His enduring goal, he stated, is to guarantee farmers receive fair and remunerative prices for their crops, with proactive market intervention strategies in place to stabilize prices during downturns.
In a direct appeal, Naidu urged Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) and Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs) to dedicate one day each month to visiting agricultural fields. This initiative aims to facilitate direct interaction with farmers, understand their challenges firsthand, and collaboratively find solutions. He also tasked them with the critical role of disseminating information about the latest farming techniques, which are essential for increasing yields and developing climate-resilient crops.
Addressing a significant concern, the Chief Minister pointed out Andhra Pradesh’s high ranking in the usage of pesticides and fertilizers. He strongly advocated for a reduction in chemical applications, encouraging farmers to shift towards more sustainable practices.
Despite a 25% increase in urea consumption this year, the government ensured ample supply, making 5.54 lakh metric tonnes available to farmers. Naidu reiterated his advice for farmers to prioritize and adopt organic fertilizers for healthier soil and produce.
Concluding his statement, Naidu emphasized the government’s steadfast commitment to expanding natural farming methods, promoting farm mechanization, and integrating cutting-edge tools like Kisan drones. He underscored the importance of the marine economy and highlighted that agriculture remains a cornerstone of the state’s economy, contributing significantly to its Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP).
He stressed that efficient water management is paramount for both agriculture and horticulture. Furthermore, concerted efforts are underway to accelerate the completion of pending irrigation projects, ensuring optimal utilization of the state’s natural water resources for sustainable growth.
