The days of boycotting legislative sessions are over, warned former Andhra Pradesh Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu. He emphasized that Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy and his YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) MLAs must now adhere to parliamentary norms and attend the Assembly sessions or face severe repercussions, including disqualification.
In a recent press statement, Ramakrishnudu underscored the constitutional mandate, reminding Reddy and his fellow YSRCP legislators that they are required to formally apply for leave of absence from the House. The Assembly must then approve such requests to excuse their absence and prevent disqualification under Article 190(4) of the Constitution.
Should Jagan Mohan Reddy and his party members fail to seek proper leave from the House, they will inevitably face disqualification once their cumulative absence reaches 60 days. Ramakrishnudu pointed out the urgency of the situation, noting that 39 days of this period have already elapsed. He further clarified that if the Assembly chooses to reject their application for leave, the disqualification of the former Chief Minister and his MLAs would become a certainty, leaving the decision squarely in their hands.
