Amanjot Kaur has a knack for finding the silver lining, even in challenging situations.
When star batters Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur were dismissed early in India’s World Cup opener against Sri Lanka in Guwahati on September 30, 2025, Amanjot saw it as her moment to shine with the bat lower down the order. “Smriti and Harman consistently rack up runs, and I hope they always do,” Amanjot shared after the match. “But this game presented a chance for me to contribute, and it felt great. Deepti Sharma also relished the opportunity.”
India found themselves in a precarious position, having lost four wickets in just two overs, plummeting from 120 for two to 124 for six. However, Amanjot remained unfazed. With a confident smile, she quipped, “How could India be in trouble when I still had to bat?”
Her lighthearted remark underscored her deep self-belief. Despite the pressure, the 25-year-old from Chandigarh fearlessly attacked the Sri Lankan bowlers, opting for audacious shots when wickets were falling around her. “You would have criticized me if I had played defensively and then gotten out,” she chuckled, addressing questions about her aggressive approach.
Amanjot had recently returned from a period of rehabilitation at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, missing India’s home series against Australia. “I believe in being at 100% or not playing at all; I don’t compromise,” she explained. “I need to be able to contain runs and perform as a complete all-rounder. Otherwise, someone else deserves the spot.”
Her performance undoubtedly proved her point, solidifying her position as a crucial all-rounder for the Indian team in that moment.
