Jaipur: The Rajasthan Police’s intelligence unit has arrested a man from Alwar on Saturday night, accusing him of spying for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) for the past two years. This arrest is the sixth related to espionage activities in Rajasthan.
The accused, identified as Mangat Singh, a resident of Alwar’s Govindgarh, was taken into custody under the Official Secrets Act, 1923. He was presented in court on Sunday and remanded to three-day police custody after his suspicious movements near the Alwar Army cantonment area were detected.
Authorities revealed that Singh was allegedly in contact with Pakistani handlers via social media. Intelligence sources indicated he was also honey-trapped by a woman operating under the alias ‘Isha Sharma’, who enticed him with money in exchange for sensitive information regarding the Alwar cantonment and other strategic locations.
An investigation is underway, with police examining Singh’s mobile phones to ascertain the extent of information passed to the Pakistani handlers. The Alwar cantonment area is considered highly strategic and has been under close monitoring by intelligence agencies, especially after ‘Operation Sindoor’.
This incident follows a series of similar arrests in Rajasthan since March, with five other individuals apprehended for alleged espionage in the border district of Jaisalmer. These include Hanif Khan, arrested on September 25 for passing information on military establishments and troop movements; Jeevan Khan, arrested on August 20 for being in contact with multiple Pakistani numbers; Mahendra Prasad, manager of a DRDO guest house, caught on August 4 for sharing defense information; Shakur Khan, a government employee arrested on June 3 for spying; Mohammad Kasim, detained on May 23 for alleged travel to Pakistan; and Pathan Khan, arrested on March 26 near a field firing range.
