A significant Pulse Polio immunization campaign officially commenced at the Community Health Centre in Chunakkara, Alappuzha, on Sunday, October 12, 2025. The district-level program was inaugurated by M.S. Arunkumar, the local MLA.
During the inaugural address, Mr. Arunkumar passionately urged all citizens to recognize the critical dangers of polio and actively participate in efforts to ensure every child grows up in the safest and healthiest environment. He highlighted the continuous dedication of the Health Department to prevent any resurgence of the polio threat. In a gesture of personal commitment, the MLA’s own child received the vaccine during the event.
To facilitate this extensive immunization drive, a total of 1,430 pulse polio booths have been strategically established across the Alappuzha district. The Health Department has set an ambitious target to administer the vital vaccine to 109,423 children as part of this crucial campaign.
The inauguration ceremony saw the presence of several key officials, including Bharanikavu block panchayat president S. Rajani, who presided over the function. Other notable attendees included Deputy Director of Health Services A.L. Sheeja, District Medical Officer Jamuna Varghese, and Chunakkara Grama Panchayat President Anilkumar, underscoring the collective effort behind this public health initiative.
