The official Facebook page of Samajwadi Party (SP) president Akhilesh Yadav was suspended on Friday evening, triggering a strong political reaction from his party. The Samajwadi Party has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government of orchestrating this move. However, sources have refuted these allegations, stating that Meta, the parent company of Facebook, made the decision autonomously, with no government interference.
According to reports, Yadav’s page was suspended for allegedly posting content deemed a “violent sexual post”. The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister’s account, which boasts over eight million followers, was reportedly suspended around 6 PM. This page was a key platform for Yadav to share his views, criticize government policies, and connect with his supporters across the state.
Reacting to the suspension, SP spokesperson Fakhrul Hasan Chaand took to ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) to express his strong disapproval. He stated, “Suspending the Facebook account of respected Akhilesh Yadav ji, the national president of the country’s third-largest party, is an attack on democracy. The BJP government has imposed an undeclared emergency, where every opposing voice is being suppressed. But the Samajwadi Party will continue to oppose the BJP’s anti-people policies.”
