The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) announced on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, its decision to postpone the ‘Bharat Bandh’, a nationwide protest scheduled for October 3, 2025. This demonstration was organized to voice opposition against the controversial Waqf Amendment Act, 2025.
The decision to defer the protest came after an urgent meeting convened by AIMPLB president Maulana Khalid Saifullah Rahmani with the Board’s office-bearers.
According to the AIMPLB, the postponement is a direct result of religious festivals celebrated by various communities coinciding with the original protest date in several states. The Board emphasized that while the nationwide shutdown has been delayed, its broader movement against the Waqf Amendment Act will proceed as planned. New dates for the ‘Bharat Bandh’ will be announced in due course, the AIMPLB confirmed.
Previously, the ‘Save Waqf, Save Constitution’ committee, operating under the Board’s guidance, had indicated its intention to launch a ‘second phase’ of protests against the new waqf legislation. Mufti Omar Abedeen, co-convener of the committee, highlighted that while certain aspects of the Supreme Court’s interim order were welcomed, other elements of the ruling had caused disappointment among the members.
