On Sunday, October 5, 2025, police in Velayuthampalayam filed a case against the driver of the custom campaign bus belonging to popular actor and Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president, Vijay. The charges fall under Section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), addressing reckless or negligent driving that endangers human lives.
This legal action comes after a video went viral, depicting a collision between two motorcycles and the caravan on September 27. This incident occurred just before Mr. Vijay’s rally in Velusamypuram, an event tragically overshadowed by a stampede that claimed 41 lives.
The accident is reported to have happened near Thavittupalayam, where the caravan was navigating a densely crowded road. Footage shows the two motorcycles crashing in close proximity to the moving campaign vehicle.
While one of the motorcyclists was identified as Chandru, the other’s identity remains unknown. Police have stated that no severe injuries were officially reported from this collision. However, they confirmed that the bus driver, whose name has not been publicly disclosed, has been charged with negligent driving.
A senior police official confirmed, “The involved vehicle has been identified, and the driver will undergo extensive questioning. The ongoing investigation will ascertain whether traffic safety regulations were breached during the convoy’s travel.”
