Speaking recently, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) President Vijay drew a stark parallel between the recent monsoon rains, which left harvested paddy rotting in the fields, and the rising tide of public discontent against the DMK government. He asserted that this growing anger would ultimately lead to the ruling party’s downfall.
In a strongly worded statement, Mr. Vijay questioned the State government’s delayed response to numerous reports of meticulously cultivated paddy being submerged and ruined by the heavy downpours.
He emphasized that “any government truly committed to its farmers would prioritize their welfare and implement measures to uplift their economic status.” He lamented that the DMK government, however, “failed to procure paddy promptly, leaving farmers’ hard-earned produce to sprout and be wasted by the rain,” describing it as a “painful and recurring situation.”
Mr. Vijay further demanded an explanation from the government regarding its strategies to prevent widespread crop damage during the monsoon season and the provisions made for the safe storage of harvested paddy. Given the ongoing activity of the Northeast monsoon, he urged the State government to “immediately implement all necessary precautionary measures with utmost urgency to safeguard crops, protect harvested grains, and shield the public from the devastating effects of the rains.”
