The Customs (Preventive) Commissionerate in Kochi has significantly advanced ‘Operation Numkhor,’ with the latest development being the seizure of another vehicle reportedly connected to popular actor Dulquer Salmaan. This recent confiscation pushes the total count of vehicles seized under the operation to 40, signaling an intensified crackdown on what authorities believe is a sophisticated car smuggling network.
Launched on Tuesday, ‘Operation Numkhor’ initially resulted in the seizure of 37 vehicles. Since then, three additional vehicles have been impounded, including the one now linked to Mr. Salmaan. This specific vehicle was reportedly seized from the residence of one of the actor’s relatives in Vennala, marking it as the third vehicle associated with Mr. Salmaan to be taken into custody as part of this ongoing investigation.
In light of these events, Customs officials are currently preparing their formal response to Mr. Salmaan’s plea in the High Court. The actor has petitioned for the release of his vehicles, arguing that their seizure by the agency was unlawful.
Adding another layer to the investigation, Customs has also documented the statement of a Muvattupuzha resident whose Land Cruiser was seized from a garage in Kundanoor. This particular vehicle, registered in Arunachal Pradesh, is notable as it was the first found during the operation that remained registered under the name of its original owner, providing crucial new avenues for investigators.
