A year has passed since the State Cabinet convened in Kalaburagi, making a slew of promises for the development of the Kalyana Karnataka region. Yet, according to the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, many of these crucial commitments remain unfulfilled, drawing sharp criticism from the organization.
During a recent press conference, Bheemu Naik, the district president of the Vedike, revealed that out of 56 development initiatives approved by the Cabinet last year, 46 were specifically targeted at the Kalyana Karnataka region. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had personally assured the implementation of these programs. However, a significant majority of these initiatives are still awaiting execution.
Naik specifically highlighted the Chief Minister’s promise of a substantial ₹7,200 crore project aimed at providing drinking water to Kalaburagi and Bidar from the Basavasagar reservoir in Narayanpur. Additionally, ₹11,770 crore was earmarked for broader development efforts across the region. Despite these grand announcements, tangible progress on these projects has been notably absent.
He further pointed out that discussions on various vital subjects, including the ₹1,685 crore Kalaburagi Smart City project, the recruitment of 17,439 individuals for vacant government posts, and boosting the tourism, health, and industrial sectors, have not translated into significant changes on the ground after an entire year. Naik passionately urged the State government to prioritize and fulfill the outstanding promises from last year’s Cabinet meeting, insisting that these should be implemented alongside any new commitments made this year.
