Lanka Dinakar, Chairman of the 20-Point Programme, recently engaged in a crucial discussion with Prakasam District Collector P. Raja Babu at the Ongole Collectorate. Their meeting, held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, primarily focused on accelerating the Veligonda project’s completion. The project is critical for ensuring water security in the Western part of the district, addressing drinking, irrigation, and industrial demands.
With the first phase of the Veligonda project anticipated to conclude within the next year, Mr. Dinakar put forth an exciting proposal: to transform the project area and its picturesque surroundings, including Cumbum Lake (also known as Gundlakamma Lake), into a prominent tourist destination. He recently visited Cumbum town and urged officials to prioritize enhancing the necessary infrastructure to support this ambitious tourism development.
“The historically underserved region of West Prakasam holds immense potential,” Dinakar emphasized. “It must be developed to its fullest extent as one of the state’s major tourist attractions.” He also suggested establishing memorials dedicated to the revered classical music composer Tyagaraja and the acclaimed civil engineer Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. Such tributes, he believes, would draw global tourists to the region.
Furthermore, Dinakar advocated for showcasing the unique heritage and cultural richness of the area through new constructions and the establishment of a dedicated tourist circuit connecting the attractions and temples surrounding Cumbum Lake. He stressed the importance of collaborative efforts, calling for these initiatives to be advanced in coordination with Giddaluru MLA Ashok Reddy and APTDC Chairman Nookasani Balaji.
