In a notable stride towards stability and security, ten members of the banned CPI (Maoist) organization, including four women, officially surrendered to high-ranking police officials in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district on Thursday, September 25, 2025. These individuals have chosen to abandon their extremist path and reintegrate into mainstream society.
The formal surrender ceremony took place in Chaibasa, where the individuals laid down their weapons before distinguished officers such as DGP Anurag Gupta, West Singhbhum SP Amit Renu, and other senior personnel from the Jharkhand Police, Jharkhand Jaguar, and the CRPF.
Among those who surrendered was Rando Boipai, also known by the alias Kranti Boipai, an influential area committee member of the outfit’s eastern regional bureau. This particular surrender marks a notable blow to the group’s leadership structure.
Authorities indicated that a primary factor in these Maoists deciding to turn themselves in was the Jharkhand government’s attractive surrender and rehabilitation policy, which offers a pathway to a new life away from violence.
Prior to their surrender, all the individuals were implicated in various serious criminal cases, including those registered under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the Explosive Substances Act, and the Criminal Law Amendment (CLA) Act.
A senior police officer hailed this development as a “major achievement,” emphasizing that “the surrender of these cadres will undoubtedly weaken Maoist activities across Jharkhand, especially within the West Singhbhum district.”
The Jharkhand Police continue to urge remaining Maoist members to renounce violence and embrace the opportunities provided by the mainstream, warning of severe consequences for those who refuse.
Illustrating the ongoing efforts against insurgency, an officer revealed that since 2022, anti-Maoist operations in West Singhbhum have been extensive. These operations have resulted in 10 Maoists killed and 175 arrested across 9,631 separate actions.
The surrendered individuals, in addition to Rando Boipai, include Gardi Koda (20), John alias Johan Purity (20), Nirso Sidu alias Asha alias Nirasha (20), Ghonar Devgam (18), Gomeya Koda alias Tarzan (20), Kaira Koda (20), Kairi Kayam alias Gulachi (22), Savitri Gope alias Mutri Gope (18), and Pradip Singh Munda.
