After learning about the distressing situation of Jessie, a young girl forced into child labor in cotton fields because she was refused admission to Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Nara Lokesh quickly stepped in. He vowed to provide immediate assistance and guarantee her a place in the school.
In response to a newspaper story highlighting Jessie’s ordeal, Minister Lokesh publicly stated on Sunday, “My dear child, please study without any worries. I will personally ensure you secure admission to the KGBV.”
The Minister confirmed that he had already contacted the relevant authorities, emphasizing his sorrow at seeing “hands meant for holding books and pens instead being calloused by cotton fields.” He reiterated the government’s strong commitment to educating children, highlighting that families enrolling their children in school can receive support through the ‘Talli Ki Vandanam’ initiative.
Mr. Lokesh detailed the comprehensive support provided by the government, including uniforms, books, bags, shoes, socks, belts, and nutritious mid-day meals, all designed to alleviate financial pressure on families. He stressed, “It is our collective responsibility to foster knowledge and values in our students, helping them grow into contributing members of society.”
Highlighting schools as paramount safe havens for children’s security and future, the Minister made an earnest plea to all parents: do not deny your children the fundamental right to education.
