In a significant stride towards fulfilling its commitment to urban upliftment, Telangana’s Revenue and Housing Minister, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, recently announced an extensive plan for building contemporary apartment-style homes for the urban poor.
The Minister shared this exciting news following the inauguration of 344 brand-new double-bedroom residences in Rasoolpura, located within the Cantonment constituency. He was joined by Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, Members of Parliament Eatala Rajender and Anil Kumar Yadav, and MLA Ganesh at the event on Saturday.
Addressing a public gathering, Mr. Srinivas Reddy elaborated on the Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s vision. He confirmed that even those residing on smaller plots, ranging from 30 to 70 square yards in urban areas, would be included in this apartment housing scheme, ensuring no one is left behind.
Recalling a promise made during the Cantonment by-election to finalize the construction of incomplete double-bedroom houses, the Minister proudly stated, “We have delivered on that assurance.” He took the opportunity to critique the previous administration, suggesting it had prioritized self-serving ventures like Kaleshwaram over the housing needs of the less fortunate.
Despite existing financial challenges, the current government remains steadfast in its resolve to construct 4.5 lakh homes in the initial phase, with plans for more houses across three subsequent phases. He emphasized that particular attention would be given to addressing the critical housing requirements within the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (GHMC) limits.
Responding to concerns raised by MP Eatala Rajender and MLA Ganesh, Minister Srinivas Reddy issued directives to officials, urging them to expedite the long-delayed housing projects in Vajpayee Colony and ensure their prompt handover to deserving beneficiaries. He further assured that any pending repairs on existing double-bedroom houses would be completed within a month, presenting these homes as a special gift to impoverished families.
Moreover, Mr. Srinivas Reddy pledged government support to long-standing families in the Cantonment area, promising to convert their occupied lands into freehold properties. He appealed to BJP MP Rajender to champion this cause with the Union Government to secure the necessary approvals, highlighting a collaborative effort for community welfare.
