In a truly heartwarming development, Ajin Elias from Angamaly and 13-year-old Avani Krishna from Kollam were discharged from Lisie Hospital in Kochi on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, after successfully undergoing life-saving heart transplant surgeries. Their recovery marks not just a personal victory but also a significant moment for organ donation in Kerala.
Ajin now carries the brave heart of 33-year-old Isaac George, a generous donor from Kottarakkara, while young Avani received her new lease on life from the heart of 18-year-old Biljith from Angamaly. These remarkable procedures were expertly performed by a dedicated team at Lisie Hospital, under the seasoned leadership of renowned cardiac surgeon Dr. Jose Chacko Periyappuram.
The profound impact of these successful operations extends far beyond the hospital walls. Dr. Noble Gracious, Executive Director of the Kerala State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (K-SOTTO), noted a powerful surge in public awareness and participation. ‘The success of these organ donations and complex surgeries has deeply resonated within our community,’ stated Dr. Gracious. ‘In just the past two weeks, we’ve seen an incredible response, with over a thousand individuals stepping forward to register as organ donors.’ This outpouring of support highlights a growing understanding and acceptance of organ donation, offering hope to many others awaiting a similar miracle.
