In Hyderabad, M.V. Nagavender Rao, a devoted lifelong reader and former Executive Director of the State Road Transport Corporation (RTC), once again marked ‘Values Day’ with students at Prakasam Vidyaniketan High School in Khairatabad. This special occasion celebrated The Hindu newspaper’s 147th anniversary, continuing a tradition Rao has upheld for several years.
Addressing the young minds, the 78-year-old Rao passionately underscored the vital role of education. He encouraged students to wholeheartedly pursue their studies, acquire comprehensive knowledge, and develop essential skills to excel in their future roles. “Every individual has a crucial part to play in society,” he stated, “and by performing our duties with optimal efficiency, we contribute to its rapid growth.”
Rao also highlighted the immense benefits of regularly reading The Hindu. He explained how this practice helps individuals stay well-informed on current affairs and significantly enhances their English language proficiency. He shared a personal anecdote, recalling how his high school English teacher in 1962 advised him to read the newspaper, an experience he credits with vastly improving his communication skills and aiding his successful managerial career. Driven by this belief, Rao even offered to personally fund the supply of the newspaper to the school.
Headmistress Sarada extended her heartfelt gratitude to Rao for his consistent visits and valuable counseling sessions for the students. The event also saw students engaging in the traditional preparation of Bathukamma, a beautiful cone-shaped floral stack, for which Rao commended them for preserving Telangana’s rich cultural heritage.
