In a significant stride towards more efficient justice, the Ballari District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) has successfully facilitated the resolution of 117 cases through mediation. This impressive achievement is part of the nationwide ‘Mediation for the Nation’ campaign, aimed at promoting amicable settlements and alleviating the burden of pending cases in local courts.
This specialized 90-day initiative, which ran from July 1 to October 7, 2025, was orchestrated under the clear directives of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee (MCPC) of the Supreme Court of India.
Across Karnataka, the campaign’s progress was meticulously overseen by the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority (KSLSA) in Bengaluru.
Rajesh N. Hosamane, Senior Civil Judge and Member Secretary of DLSA, Ballari, highlighted that the campaign’s core mission was to encourage citizens to embrace mediation as an accessible and cost-effective method for resolving their disputes.
“The campaign has yielded remarkable results in both Ballari and Vijayanagara districts. Among the 117 cases successfully mediated, we saw 41 matrimonial disputes, 32 cheque bounce cases, 23 partition suits, three criminal compoundable cases, two domestic violence cases, one accident claim case, and 15 other civil disputes. Overall, 920 cases were referred for mediation during the 90-day period,” Mr. Hosamane stated.
He further emphasized that this success is a testament to the collaborative spirit among District Judiciary judges, lawyers, clients, mediators, the general public, and the media.
“Mediation offers a pathway to resolve disputes in a less confrontational and more harmonious manner. This process not only preserves relationships but also significantly saves time and financial resources,” he added.
The positive impact extended statewide, with Karnataka’s Mediation Centres and 28 District Mediation Centres collectively settling an outstanding 5,575 cases. This included 2,862 matrimonial disputes, 104 accident claims, 176 domestic violence disputes, 668 cheque bounce cases, 649 partition suits, 188 criminal compoundable cases, 129 land acquisition cases, and 150 labour disputes, as reported by KSLSA.
The campaign’s widespread success was fueled by the leadership of Anu Sivaraman, Executive Chairperson of KSLSA, and Jayant Banerji, Chairman of the State-Level Mediation Committee. Their guidance, coupled with frequent meetings, extensive awareness drives, and targeted media outreach, ensured broad public engagement throughout the state.
