A profound tragedy struck Pallipad, near Haripad in Alappuzha, on Sunday when a 61-year-old woman made the ultimate sacrifice while attempting to save her friend from electrocution. The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. and has left the community in shock.
The brave woman who succumbed to the electrocution has been identified as Sarala, a resident of Pallipad. Her friend, Sreelatha, is currently in critical condition and receiving urgent medical attention.
Haripad police reported that the two women were working in the Panamoottukadu paddy polder when Sreelatha accidentally came into contact with a detached stay wire from an electric pole. Without hesitation, Sarala rushed to her friend’s aid, but in her heroic effort, she too was tragically electrocuted.
Both individuals were immediately transported to the Taluk Hospital in Haripad, where medical personnel pronounced Sarala dead upon arrival.
In the aftermath of the incident, local residents have voiced strong concerns, alleging negligence on the part of the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB). They claim that delays in repairing the severed stay wire directly led to this devastating accident. Authorities have since registered a case to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate event.
