Get ready for an unforgettable visual spectacle! Mysuru’s beloved Dasara Flower Show, hosted at the picturesque Kuppanna Park right in the city’s heart, is set to open its doors to a world of vibrant colors and breathtaking floral artistry.
This annual event, a cherished part of the grand Dasara festivities, is known for drawing massive crowds eager to immerse themselves in stunning floral creations, imaginative thematic displays, and engaging activities. Spanning a lush 10 acres, Kuppanna Park, also affectionately known as Nishad Bagh, anticipates welcoming over 50,000 visitors daily to admire the intricate flower arrangements, a diverse collection of ornamental plants, and a host of special attractions.
The undisputed highlight of this year’s show, nestled within the elegant Glass House, is a magnificent floral replica of the Mahatma Gandhi Museum from Kanyakumari. Meticulously crafted using more than three lakh roses, this awe-inspiring installation is currently receiving its final delicate touches from talented flower designers and decorators, promising to be a true showstopper.
Adding a contemporary touch, visitors will also find displays artfully illustrating the significance and benefits of the government’s five key guarantee schemes: Gruha Jyothi, Gruha Lakshmi, Shakti, Anna Bhagya, and Yuva Nidhi.
In a heartfelt tribute to India’s brave armed forces and their successful “Operation Sindhoor,” the show features impressive floral sculptures of an army truck, a fighter jet, and a naval ship, all brought to life with a stunning array of roses, chrysanthemums, and other beautiful blooms.
Beyond these grand narratives, standalone attractions abound, including a majestic statue of Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, an intricately designed elephant bearing the Ambari, the divine Navadurga, a thought-provoking theme dedicated to Earth conservation, the charming Thandi Sadak, and a joyful Children’s Park—each crafted with an abundance of diverse flower varieties.
The Department of Horticulture has diligently cultivated over 60,000 flowering plants specifically for this event. Expect to see popular varieties like zinnia, petunia, French marigold, cockscomb, anthurium, pentas, carnation, oxalis, aster, button chrysanthemum, and dahlia, all arranged with artistic flair to enhance the park’s natural beauty and the floral displays.
Visitors can also explore various stalls featuring agricultural products, innovative equipment, and initiatives aimed at supporting farmers. The ‘Sasya Santhe’ will be a popular spot, offering plants grown by the department at subsidized rates. Additionally, plants sourced from esteemed industries and organizations such as BEML and JK Tyres will be showcased.
To further encourage creativity and community participation, officials from the Horticulture Department and the Mysore Horticultural Society will visit schools, colleges, industries, and other local venues to select the finest designs for various competitions. These include daily contests for rangoli, pushpa rangoli (flower rangoli), flower decoration, vegetable carving, ikebana, painting, and other interactive events, ensuring a fun and engaging experience for everyone.
