Bajrang Ram Bhagat, a shopkeeper, turned an ordinary day into an extraordinary one by fulfilling his daughter Champa’s dream of owning a scooter. After diligently saving ₹10 coins for seven months, he walked into a showroom with ₹40,000 worth of coins to purchase a Honda Activa scooter. He chose to pay entirely in cash, foregoing loans, to make this special Diwali gift possible.
The total cost of the scooter was ₹98,700, and Bhagat’s commitment to paying in cash was unwavering. His savings effort involved collecting whatever he could daily, even small amounts of ₹10 or ₹100, all with the goal of bringing joy to his child.
The scene at the showroom in Jashpur was quite remarkable. The sheer volume of coins required over three hours for the staff to count before the transaction could be completed. The showroom owner, Anand Gupta, noted the unusual sight and shared that, as a festive bonus, the family also won a mixer grinder in a lucky draw.
Champa, who is currently pursuing her B.Com degree, expressed her gratitude, highlighting how the scooter would significantly ease their daily chores and aid in transporting goods.
The family’s story is further contextualized by their stable living situation, including a home built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and their participation in government schemes like PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi and the Mahtari Vandan scheme. They have access to electricity and drinking water from a nearby borewell.
