During this year’s Deepavali celebrations, the Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Services Department attended to a total of 44 fire incidents across the state. Out of these, 18 calls were specifically within the bustling Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area.
Fire Control Room officials detailed the incidents, noting that 38 were minor blazes, three were classified as medium-severity, and one was serious. The medium-level incidents occurred in Chandulal Baradari, Yakutpura, and Mahabubabad. The single serious call originated from an industrial facility in Sangareddy, where initial investigations point to a short circuit as the cause, unrelated to fireworks.
Crucially, a fire control room official confirmed that “no major fire incidents stemming directly from firecrackers were reported this year,” highlighting a positive trend.
This year’s figures present an improvement over 2024’s Deepavali, which saw 33 fire calls, all directly attributed to crackers, including three significant mishaps. One such incident involved a third-floor apartment in Himayat Nagar on Street Number 18, which was extensively damaged. Despite the property losses in previous years, officials happily noted that no serious injuries were reported in any of those incidents either.
