A poignant ceremonial parade unfolded at the Telangana police headquarters in Lakdikapul on Tuesday, marking the esteemed retirement of Jitender, who served a commendable tenure of over 15 months as the Director General of Police (DGP).
The ‘Pulling Out Ceremony,’ a tradition steeped in respect, saw numerous senior IPS officers gather to celebrate his profound contributions to law enforcement and public service throughout the State.
Assuming the top office on July 10, 2024, DGP Jitender brought a wealth of experience to his role. His impressive background included five years as ADGP (Law and Order), and critical positions such as Director of the Telangana Police Academy (TGPA), Principal Secretary (Home), Superintendent of Police in Mahabubnagar and Guntur, and Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic). He also notably led the elite Greyhound unit, an achievement for which he was awarded the prestigious Gallantry Award. Earlier in his career, he honed his skills as an SP at the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in New Delhi.
During his leadership, DGP Jitender championed a people-centric approach to policing. He spearheaded innovative initiatives like the E-Challan system, the Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) project, and the introduction of ‘copless junctions.’ These efforts fostered cashless and contactless traffic enforcement, significantly reduced public grievances, and bolstered transparency and accountability within the force. He further enhanced public engagement by launching a QR code-based citizen feedback system for police stations and implementing comprehensive training programs for Station House Officers (SHOs).
Under his vigilant guidance, law and order across Telangana remained consistently robust. Major festivals, including Ganesh Chaturthi, Durga Puja, and Eid Milad-un-Nabi, were celebrated peacefully and without incident. His administration was also distinguished by effective measures to curb Maoist influence, leading to several high-ranking cadres surrendering and receiving crucial rehabilitation support. Efforts to combat organised crime and cybercrime were intensified, with a strong focus on recovering funds for victims of financial fraud and launching awareness campaigns to prevent future offenses.
Beyond operational policing, Mr. Jitender demonstrated a strong commitment to education and welfare. He established the Young India Police School, providing quality education for police families, and successfully secured a 30% allowance to boost the morale of personnel in specialized units like the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE).
On the national stage, the Telangana Police, under his dynamic leadership, achieved the top rank in the India Justice Report 2025. The State’s contingent also showcased exceptional discipline and skill at the All India Police Duty Meet, securing 17 medals and topping the overall medal tally, a testament to their competitive excellence.
His extensive tenure also encompassed effective oversight of disaster response operations during floods and heavy rains, streamlined highway traffic management, and the successful launch of the Tourism Police, with dedicated personnel deployed at nine key locations across the state.
The day’s ceremonies concluded at the DGP office, where IPS officers extended their felicitations to the outgoing DGP Jitender and warmly welcomed his successor, B. Shivadhar Reddy, who is set to assume charge as the new Telangana DGP on Wednesday.
