Andhra Pradesh’s coastal areas are gearing up for potential heavy rainfall, expected to last until October 3. This comes as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts the formation of a low-pressure area over the central Bay of Bengal on October 1, 2025.
This weather system is projected to intensify into a depression by October 2 and is anticipated to cross the South Odisha-North Andhra coasts in the early hours of October 3.
While light to moderate rainfall is expected across all three regions of Andhra Pradesh – Rayalaseema, North Coastal, and South Coastal – until October 4, the coastal districts, in particular, should prepare for isolated instances of heavy downpours through October 3.
Specifically, districts like Srikakulam, Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR), Visakhapatnam, and NTR could experience moderate showers on October 1. The state also faces a risk of thunderstorms, strong winds, and lightning.
Recent observations on September 30 showed moderate rainfall in several districts, including Anakapalli, Krishna, NTR, and Kakinada. Yelamanchili in Anakapalli district recorded the highest rainfall at 40 mm, while Vijayawada received approximately 25 mm, according to data from the Directorate of Economics and Statistics.
Important Advisory for Fishermen and Public
Prakhar Jain, Managing Director of the A.P. State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA), has issued a strong warning to fishermen, advising them to avoid venturing into the sea until October 4. He also urged the public to refrain from seeking shelter under trees, near old or unstable buildings, or under hoardings during the adverse weather. Furthermore, crossing swollen rivers or water bodies is strongly discouraged due to safety concerns.
